Prairie dropseed
Sporobolus heterolepis
Prairie dropseed is a preferred native grass for prairie gardens. A burst of flowering panicles on slender stems float above the tufted grass in late summer in tints of pink and brown. It prefers loamy or sandy, well-drained or dry soil and full sun. Prairie dropseed grows to a mature height of 2 to 4 feet.
